ACEJ Karama Secondary school in Muhanga, Rwanda
As most of you know already... my wife and I just went on a long trip to Africa in September, 2009 a major part of that trip was to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the ACEJ Karama school in Gitarama, (now Muhanga) Rwanda and to present them with a check to help build a much needed dormitory for the students to live in. The celebration was amazing! Hundreds of people attended, including the mayor, PTA officials, students, parents, alumni, and us of course.
There were traditional dancers and speakers, including Kevin Stalder and his presentation of our check, and lunch was provided just after the ceremony when it started to rain. According to Theogene (our friend from Rwanda) if it rains at the end of a celebration or ceremony that is a good sign.
We got to see the future site of the dormitory and the current living conditions for the students. There are currently hundreds of students living at the school in rooms approximately 20'X30' with 40 students living in each room. The only thing in these rooms are bunkbeds from wall to wall.
I would like to personally thank each and every one of the wonderful people who helped make this happen. To all of you who donated money, to those who believed in what we were doing and supported with encouraging words or told the story to their friends. Thank you. You have helped make a difference in the lives of countless generations of kids who attend the school in Muhanga, Rwanda. You are helping to change the world around you and in places you haven't seen. Anyone is welcome to return to Rwanda with us when the dormitory is finished to spend a night there!
Thank You!
